A truly satisfying dish. One to be proud of. One that should come with the warning sign of
WARNING: Awesomely Addictive Pizza! Beware, it is delicious and knowing you made it yourself is a huge creativity boost as you can adapt this dish in many ways, different bread bases, different types of cheese and so many different toppings, the possibilities are endless! Research, trial & error.
You would think given the simplicity of it that we would all be making our own. Maybe this recipe can inspire more people to do so. I can’t believe I have gone my whole life and never made a proper pizza, when I was about 13 or 14 years old I crafted a sweet chocolate pizza in a home economics class and yes it was smothered in chocolate and all kinds of sherbets and chewy sweets (I shudder now to think what was actually on it, the allergies I have now would most definitely be going wild if I were to indulge in a slice of that bad boy! Luckily for me I have seen better days and can now cook in better ways )
This Pizza recipe contains absolutely no: artificial flavours, colours, preservatives or additives or anything artificial at all for that matter.
It is free from: gluten, wheat, eggs, dairy, yeast, sugar and animals.
I used organic ingredients as inorganic foods have had dangerous, life threatening additives added to them and are un-natural and almost void of nutrition. Once upon a time organic food was simply just known as ‘food’, grown, sold and eaten in all its freshness. Now, you have to buy ‘organic’ food to ensure its just food and nothing else and to know it is safe enough to consume!
The system is so corrupt and seemingly does not care for our health despite what it advertises, preaching that it is safe to use products like roundup to spray onto our fields of food, despite the people spraying the crops are wearing masks and full body covering suits! When and who decided it would be a good idea to mass spray deadly chemicals onto what we use as fuel to live? Guarantee they don’t eat it! It is totally backwards and lethal to the uneducated fool. Time to wake up!
I urge you to research further and scrutinise everything you are consuming, to the last ingredient, its place of origin and how it is cared for.
Buy organic! Just do it. Most products are about 20p more expensive, a lot are the same price and some products that are organic are actually cheaper than those that are not, check it out, save yourself from deadly disease via the consumption of weed killing chemicals and start buying organic today.
This pizza was a winner all round, I did a little trial one first with just cheese and tomato for the boys lunch and they absolutely loved it! Yay! It only takes around 30 minutes to cook and it is tremendously healthy as every ingredient, in a moderate dose, is health promoting and nutritional.
My younger Sister came to stay as she often does, usually we would have got some kind of take away food or would have eaten separately prior to dinner time but since I have turned into a foodie freak and I am now almost completely homemaking everything and will not touch anything that doesn’t have specifically listed ingredients stating it being organic and animal free, that’s just not an option anymore. So that’s the take aways cancelled. I know my family think I’m a weirdo and can’t understand why I stress and worry and even bother to live this way but since I have seen the light, I feel, it is vital to do all I can to consume responsibly. Thus meaning avoiding all known allergens / foods that are unhealthy and unethically sound. Last time my sis came to stay her and my mother ordered the greasiest, cheapest and nastiest pizza going, laced with everything that would make me very ill and riddled with guilt, it made me want to puke looking at it and I actually didn’t ‘try’ it and just let them carry on. I did however have some garlic bread. They then both passed out (screaming gluten) and I thought to myself, “this is no good! It just won’t do” To think about what is actually in and on top of that pizza is seriously nasty, if you care enough about ethics! After eating food or consuming anything, if it makes you feel anything less than alive then it’s not good for you. I cringed at it all and I made it my mission to provide a healthy version that we can all enjoy. After a little research on a base, a cheese and how to cook it, this homemade pizza started coming together nicely.
Firstly you will need a cheese, I am dairy intolerant so this is a ‘vegan’ cheese meaning it does not contain any animal products. It does contain nuts and quite a few of them so unfortunately if you have a nut allergy this cheese will not work for you, however I would love to see a vegan cheese that is nut free also so if you do happen to create one for yourself please share it here in the comments or send me a link. Thanks.
Soft Cashew Cheese
Here is the link to the full cheese recipe article (link)
My sister says it tastes like Philadelphia cheese, I’m not sure if this is a compliment or not though!
It is, however, the most delicious cheese I have ever tasted and the fact it has no animal milk involved really warms my heart. This was my first ever cheese. Like the Pizza all in all, this cheese can be adapted using diversity to create wondrous cheeses, tailored to tickle your individual taste buds.
This is an amazing cheese that actually tastes like a cream cheese!
To make this cheese you will require:
1 cup Organic Raw Cashew Nuts
1 cup Soaking Water
2 tablespoons Agar Flakes + ¼ cup Water
1/3 teaspoon Organic Raw Garlic
1/3 teaspoon Organic Raw Onion
1/3 teaspoon Himalayan Pink Sea Salt
¼ cup fresh Organic Lemon Juice
1 teaspoon Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
Method:
1) Soak the Cashew Nuts in 1 cup of Water for at least 8 hours.
2) Crush a clove of Garlic and chop the Onion and measure them out. Leave it to air.
3) Combine the Agar Flakes + Water in a pan, bring it to the boil then simmer for 5-8 minutes, stirring frequently.
4) In a blender combine the Cashews + the soaking Water, Garlic, Onion, ACV, Lemon juice and Salt. Blend on high for 2 minutes.
5) Add the heated Agar to the blender and blend for around 5 minutes until the cheese thickens.
6) Remove from the blender and set it in to a bowl.
7) Refrigerate your cheese and use it in a variety of amazing ways.
Tomato Puree Sauce
For this sauce I feel it was a little sweet so next time I will use less Agave. Feel free to follow precisely or adapt to your personal taste.
You will require:
6-8 Large Organic Tomatoes
1 tablespoon Agar Flakes
1 tablespoon Organic Agave Syrup
1/3 teaspoon Himalayan Pink Sea Salt
Method:
1) Chop and blend the Tomatoes, salt and Agave into a puree.
2) In a pan add the combined ingredients and gently heat the Tomatoes and add the Agar. Bring it to the boil and then simmer for 6-8 minutes, stirring continuously.
3) Remove from heat and mix thoroughly.
4) Leave it to set in a jar until it is required.
Bread Base
For the bread base I used a very simple recipe as the variations were slightly overwhelming, most recipes including yeast which I did not want to use. I wanted to do a mix of flours but couldn’t find a suitable recipe and yes I was anxious I would get it wrong if I changed it as I am not a very great bread baker! I struggle with the volumes of ingredients and this time as it was for my sister I didn’t want to screw it up. I settled for safe rather than potentially sorry option here!
Nevertheless the bread is awesome and a winner with the kids too.
Silly I forgot to add the Chia Seeds to the actual Pizza base but I did try it again with them and it worked brilliantly so I would recommend adding 2 teaspoons Chia seeds.
For this flatbread pizza base you will require:
2 ¼ cups Buckwheat Flour
½ cup Organic Tapioca Flour
2 cups Warm Water
¼ cup Organic Olive Oil
1 teaspoon Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
1/3 teaspoon Organic Raw Garlic
1/3 teaspoon Organic Raw Onion
1/3 teaspoon Himalayan Pink Sea Salt
1 teaspoon Organic Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Food Grade Baking Soda
1 tablespoon Organic Agave Syrup
Toppings
For this particular Pizza the toppings we used were:
1 Courgette
¼ tin Sweetcorn
1/3 Green Pepper
1/3 Yellow Pepper
1 Red Onion
½ Patty Pan
2 Chillies
The cooking method used:
1) Preheat Oven to Gas Mark 4. Line baking tray with parchment paper, grease it and heat in the oven.
2) Measure out the dry ingredients and combine in a bowl.
3) Measure and combine the wet ingredients in a separate bowl and blend on high for no more than 2 minutes.
4) Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Pour and scoop the mix on to the baking paper and spread it out evenly to ensure even cooking.
5) Bake for 10-15 minutes depending on how crispy you require the bread.
6) Remove from the oven and spread the Tomato sauce evenly over the bread base. Next add a thick layer of cheese, I did not want to heat the cheese to melt it so I just used a knife to spread it across. Then add the toppings.
7) Place the tray back in the oven for 10-20 minutes.
8) Remove the Pizza from the oven, let it slightly cool then cut diagonally.
9) Serve and devour!
